I have a real problem with Democrats trying to blame everything on deregulation, as if Bush's faux deregulation really counts.

I don't blame "everything" on lack of regulation (rather than deregulation), just some things. Iraq is a big part of my dislike of Bush... that I certainly don't blame on regulation (maybe oversight by congress).

Government grew by leaps and bounds under Bush, yet the ROI tanked. Democrats rightly point to that as a failure of Bush, but what they propose is even more government, thinking that the only missing ingredients are intelligence and foresight.

And pragmatism. We hired guys to run government that hate government. You wouldn't hire guys to run your company that hate your company.

Maybe the failure isn't one of conservatism or libertarianism. Maybe the failure is a real betrayal of the ideals that gained favor back during the Reagan revolution. Even Clinton seemed to be more of a Reaganite after 1994

Clinton did a to more to stem the growth of government than Reagan. If you take off the political party blinders you see that.

Obama wants a post partisan environment, I'm hoping more for a post-ideology period. Ideology is more rigid than party; lets have a period of pragmatism... throw out the inefficient and invest in the efficient; regardless of liberal or conservative ideology. If the end is smaller or larger, but more efficient government who cares.
