I have an occasional "appointment" set with my youngest son (16). Gives us both a chance (without penalty) to discuss "stuff". Probably have had 20 or so (the first 15 were weekly) over the last 2 years. Side note; REALLY learned alot.

I asked about a particular friend, who seemed to be doing OK. My son told me that he was just fighting with his parents. Not uncommon in our houshold either, especially he and his mom. Its just constant.......

anyway, during this moment he says, " Ya know, All my friends hate their parents. One by one over the last years each one constantly complains about this or that. Parents seem unreasonable and dont trust them. I figured that I some point I'd learn to hate you guys to, but it just never seems to come. You and mom are really OK in general".

I responded that I appceciated the complement and was elated that he felt that way. But I told him that his opinion tells more about him then it does about us. He smiled.
