That reminded me of one of my dear Grandmothers....She was Southern, and did say things like that. Heavens, it just WASN'T 'done' to even think of swearing....or saying anything the least bit salty.... If anyone did that, they were thought to have had "no breeding", and certainly not any "bringing up or manners"..... And THAT was the kiss of death, not to have manners. remember in an earlier time that "Gracious!" was an exclamation about something unusual, as in "Gracious, that was bad storm!"
