Companies normally will not give you that information, for competitive reasons. In fact when I talked to P&G, all they said is "we were third to market and have now moved in to second place."
I would think that they must be doing pretty good, or else Astra-Merck
would not have joined up with them to co-promote their drug. Check out Robert Busse's post a couple of weeks ago. Astra gave CMTR 2.5 mil to
take their H-pylori test back. We can only surmise that that was because P&G is co-promoting Quidel's kit. The way I understand the deal is that the P&G salesperson besides pushing the cure also co-promotes Astra's feel better drug and Quidel's kit. That is just my
understanding. As an aside, I checked with a friend who works in a pharmacy, and asked if she had seen a drop off of sales in the ulcer
"feel better" drugs. The answer was "No".
The sellers of QDEL's stock to-day,IMO, had some pretty un-realistic
expectations. Last time I had a stock like this, I went from 4 1/2
to 26. It took 7 years, and if QDEL is going to 26 I am prepared to
wait, but only 5 years. In the mean time there are plenty of other
stocks where fast money can be made (and lost). It is quite disturbing
to see Wall Street's obsession with earnings. I want revenue growth
and a steady stream of new products.
