The National Grid

Peter Huber 10.30.08, 6:00 PM ET

Forbes Magazine dated November 24, 2008

Electricity is the key to U.S. energy independence, and a national market for electricity is the answer to the global market for oil. Building out a national grid, a financially modest undertaking for an industry as large as the power industry already is, will unleash innovation and competition on both the supply and demand side of our energy market. It should be built. To get over $4 gas we should let American capital, labor and know-how get on with what it already does so well and connect us to 4-cent electricity.

Peter Huber is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute
