Koan: When I was in college one of my roomates started a fire in our apartment (he was a sociopath-lol-true!). And not my friend. I had nothing to do with it, but I was the only one sued. The apartment building's owners brought in a full cadre of big lawyers and I had a public defender who had just graduated from Santa Clara law school. They are near the bottom of law schools. The judge took one look at the case, the cadre of big time lawyers and dismissed the case quoting Earl Warrren: In the words of the great Earl Warren: "it does not matter if it is the law, it matters if it is just". He said that! How could I ever forget those words. Vinter: How did you get a public defender for what was a civil lawsuit? And to my knowledge a judge can't throw out a case just because you are outgunned legally--and if he did his decision could be appealed and oveturned. My guess is the Apartment owners thought it was more trouble than it was worth to go after someone who probably was broke (you being a college student) when their insurance company was going to pay them regardless.
