I learned about krummholz trees when studying alpine soils in dirt class.

We were never taught about them, but my intuition tells me that they are an adaptation that allows the trees to exist in the harshest environments possible.

Those trees, and other living things I've observed in harsh environments are what gives me faith that the environmentalists are all wet when it comes to 'fragile ecosystems.' Life is unstoppable. You find it everywhere, even on glacial ice.

I'm not sure about boxwood, which is a common name for a number of shrubby plants. I worked with one in Oregon called Pachistima. Another name for it was 'mountain lover.' I loved that.
