6 million first time voters made the difference on Nov 4. Today I believe one of them revealed to me why they finally took the time to register and vote.

Woman about 30yrs old asked my reaction to the Obama win. When I replied that many of those who voted for him will probably be disappointed, since it's highly unlikely he will be sending checks anytime soon. Her response was: "that was the rumor---I was hoping to receive a check from the government by Christmas but after the election was told that's impossible." She sounded already disillusioned--apparently Obama's mantra of "95% will receive a tax cut" was the motivator for those who had never found a reason to vote in the past.
