cbc.ca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Woman busted for booze smuggling in Natuashish CBC News RCMP say they stopped a woman trying to smuggle alcohol into a northern Labrador community that recently voted to go dry. RCMP said the woman, 21, was arrested Thursday after arriving on a flight to Natuashish from Happy Valley-Goose Bay. In a statement, the force said the woman brought along a "large quantity of alcohol." The woman will appear in provincial court in Natuashish in January on a charge of possession of an intoxicant on a dry reserve. Members of the Innu community on Jan. 31 narrowly approved making the community dry, and giving police the authority to charge people caught bringing in alcohol. Thursday's arrest is the latest in a string of busts made by the RCMP in Natuashish. RCMP estimate that about $36,000 worth of alcohol and drugs have been seized since July from people disembarking from airplanes or boats.
