About every time we got together, he teased me about hurricanes some day wiping out my house in Florida. After all, it was only about 12 feet above sea level compared to his California house at 62 feet above sea level. (Hey, we’re both engineers…) I poked back that the real threat was earthquakes. The brilliant-in-my-own-mind punch line to this ten-minute "argument" was, "Maybe you heard of this new thing we have now out here in the boondocks? It's called radar! You can see the dang thing coming and get the heck out of dodge." The clever point being that you get no such warning with earthquakes... ;=) For those who paid attention, there was plenty of warning about this earthquake. Ironically, it's arrival put large swaths of Santa Clara County "underwater" The local paper gave us a picture this morning to prove it: We don't wish for trouble.
