We lived in New Delhi India from 7/85 to 7/89 and the pollution in certain months, particularily when both home fires and crop residue burning were going on , was something else. I have only been back once in the last 19 years , we plan to visit in the spring and I hope it in't worse. Delhi in thew 80's made LA in the 60's look pristine some days

The Indian authorities have finally placed scrubbers on the old coal fired power plants and much of the household use of wood has stopped; but traffic is five times worse and many vehicles are diesel and dirty. I understand crop residue burning is still going on; that has to be cut way back. The pollution at the time when we were there did extend scores of miles ; probably hundreds of miles. It now extends many, many hundreds of miles in india , across the ganges plain and then some.
