You're talking about selection of the veniremen and women from the public at large. That has nothing to do with peremptive challenges or challenges for cause in the process of jury selection.

If you were in trial, whether for a criminal or civil case, you would want your lawyer to select the most favorable jury for your side of the case. Peremptive challenges are important. You can't rely on weeding out undesireable jurors only for cause.
