Seems like *partisans* will always be 'pissed-off' regardless of whatever transpires.

(That's what partisans do....)

But, what in the world is WRONG with eliminating special interest tax loopholes and then reducing tax rates to reflect the savings?

(I say: slash as many tax loopholes as you possibly can, and reduce rates as much as possible!)

PS --- Rangel's 'comment' (as you describe it) is actually being written up in the tax overhaul proposal that he will be introducing into his committee in the new Congress... so it seems to be a bit more than a comment.
