I do not expect cataclysmic collapse of the dollar against the rmb, euro, yen, aud, cad, the zimbabwe dollar (ok, I am exaggerating a bit).

Neither do I.

In fact, the improved trade deficit in the US as oil and commodities cheapen or stay relatively cheap, coupled with reduced consumption here, is quite dollar-supportive particularly as the currencies of exporters will get hit harder.

The dollar cannot stay strong forever, however. Its strength is a short term phenomenon, probably good to the end of '09 or thereabouts.
