Steven,

Hi!!! Yes, unfortunately I have worked for many apple growers and have seen the tactics employed to stop these incredibly adaptable creatures....Irish Spring soap has been tried; Milorganite (human sewage fertilizer)....used that around my Korean hybrid dogwood...they loved the buds!!! Human hair...yeah that stops em....most of the growers get permits...the lead in the head generally deters them....too many...and I am a conservationist!!! My good friends (who we barbecue with their families...dell holders) own a large vegetable and corn farm....you should see what they can do to them!!! Had two gorgeous holly trees last year...watered every other day...beautiful location on a stone wall...perfect shape...last February they ate them to the ground...Holly...that is some tough sort of leaf...
They just adapt too well to the surroundings...a dog is the best way to keep them away during the day...but, at night when the dog is in...Ooooh!!! My dog is too old and they have fun with him!!! Need a young fast and energetic dog to keep them in the woods.
Best,Kemble
