No idea whether he is a Republican or a Democrat.

But he definitely bears some significant responsibility. After all, it is management who has ALLOWED the unions to effectively overthrow the management of the entire US auto industry. So, while the unions are have run their own industry into the ground, it clearly has been management who was foolish enough to allow them to do it by repeatedly giving in to demands to avoid facing strikes.

Had management stood up for the company's interests instead of caving to strike pressures time and again, they wouldn't be in this fix. I think everyone recognizes it, though, and if there is a bailout the unions are going to have to make concessions.
