This is predicated upon the notion that he had a very high probability of being reelected (not necessarily the case as we may soon find out). If successful, then the party should take the ancient (oldest in Congress), corrupt b*&tard in the back room and pistol whip him until he resigns. That way the Republican governor gets to appoint a Republican senator to replace him. From what I heard on the radio this AM, the Pubs are planning their new senate structure, and nobody wants him on their caucus/committee. This is the political equivalent of pistol whipping. Again - that is purely a cynical political viewpoint - and I bet that is what is going down. It may have been the case that Ted's little indiscretions came to light after it is was too late to post a viable replacement. Let there be no confusion - Ted Stevens owes the country a few years in an orange jumpsuit in the Big House.
