yeah I don't think the unions are the whole problem but they are definitely PART of the problem. GM has needed to retool to a few car models for years but it is so costly for them to layoff, instead they keep all this deadwood union labor around to build dozens of car models that nobody wants.

I bet you their white collar payroll is nearly equal to that of the workers on the floor. Yet, no one talks about their pay scale. That's what frustrates me. And even if GM got the best wage terms from their workers, that won't sell ugly, garbage cars. The designs are terrible; they are behind in terms of innovation; they consistently miscalculate the market and the quality is still not there after years of being behind the eight ball.

And yet, its the unions that take the brunt of the bashing.
