problem is if they break it down then it exposes all the crap like that job bank with 5000 furloughed employees... those are wages paid to "workers" who aren't working and havent for decades. They prefer to be opaque about it.

Apparently, for GM, the job banks is no longer an issue. And again, the creation of the job banks I pass off to mgmt which developed this bizarre model when they negotiated contracts with the unions way back in 1984. Furthermore, I find it somewhat perplexing that the unions for the auto industry are so all powerful that they can dictate to GM's mgmt their terms when the back of unions were broken in this country long ago. Something just doesn't ring true in this whole discussion.

"The jobs bank also may be protected by concessions the union has given the automakers in the four years since the last contracts were signed. In the past two years, the union agreed to buyouts of more than 80,000 hourly workers at all three automakers, depleting the number of employees in the jobs bank programs. GM's jobs bank is practically non-existent, for instance.
