Not precisely, unfortunately.

I, too, grew up in a union town. And I saw the entire town crippled for months at a time while strikes shut down the entire north side operations. The unions had the plants by the balls, and the plants lacked the gumption to fire the employees' asses and break the unions, which they could have done.

The Big Three, had they broken the unions years ago, would never in this terrible condition. Had they done what Ronald Reagan had the good sense to do with the Air Traffic Controllers -- while they could have gotten away with it -- they wouldn't have the problem today.

Unions have outlived their usefulness and ought to be seriously curtailed until such time presents as they can once again serve a useful purpose. Any assistance to the Big Three must be conditioned on substantial cutbacks in benefits for labor, otherwise, it is just one more welfare program spewed out by the Left.
