Acronis True Image is a disk imaging program that installs like any other program on your computer. You use it to "write" a perfect image of everything on your disk and store that image somewhere else...ie..on another partition or internal or external disk. It is not a free program. There are freebies out there like XXCopy that will also do it but I bought Acronis because, at the time, it and Norton's Ghost where the two most recommended ones. If I screw something up it takes about 10 minutes to restore the image and eliminate anything I have done since I made that image. I keep all my documents on a separate partition so I won't lose them when I do have to do a restore of the image. I would think System restore would suffice for you and buying an Imaging program wouldn't be worth it. I would buy a new hard drive if I was you to replace the 4200 rpm drive you now have in your laptop but you probably need to have someone install it for you. As a free service they may be willing to clone your drive to the new one if you get them to do the install. I was looking at this one when I mentioned it to you the other day. This one is 7200 rpm and will make you think you have a new machine. Everything will appear to be much faster.
