right. You know if you ask the venture capitalists out here about the auto industry they feel that there is a huge opportunity right now. You need disruption to create opportunity so many industries do not offer much in the way of that. PCs for example, no opps there. But cars a totally different story and some of the hottest startups in the SF bay area are car companies or car suppliers (electric cars).

In this kind of climate Detroit should be humming. The big 3 should be seeding small startups around detroit to build electric and plug in hybrids, with an intent to bring these into the fold when they take off. The price point for any new model is always high- I would say 50K or so would be good for a boutique model.

Is any of this going on at the big 3? No. All they do is lobby to remove voter mandated cafe standards and lobby for tax cuts for SUVs. Lobbying is their ENTIRE business model. They fight tooth and nail against the 21st century.
