An excellent overview of two popular imaging software packages. Thank-you for your time and effort to share your observations.
I refuse to use a computer that doesn't have a disk image. It's just not worth the risk. Currently, I use Acronis. For many years, I used Drive Image. I've never tried Ghost.
I'd like to add to your comments.
I also use an Acronis sister product, Disk Director. It manages the partitions. Like Drive Image, it works smoothly and easily. I began with Partition Magic.
The advantages of using a partitioned drive are plentiful. Separating data from system files makes disaster recovery easy. For those systems with only one disk, a partition can give them a place to store images of their system. Although it doesn't offer perfect protection, it can enable a quick recovery from software problems. The majority of troubles stem from software, not hardware.
Partitioning, to be user friendly, needs to be done without data loss. Both programs I mentioned will do this.
For the frugal, there's FDISK. But it destroys data. For most people, it's too much pain.
