Pirates -- Maybe somebody could help me out with a dumb question about this bizarre event -- what the heck can you do with stolen crude oil? Crude oil, in its unprocessed state, is totally worthless. The only way it would be of value is if some refinery somewhere would be willing to pay some money for it.

Any refinery that agreed to pay the pirates for this stolen oil would almost certainly be blackballed by the rest of the world, so it seems most unlikely that these guys will ever be able to monetize this contraband. At least if they had stolen gasoline, it might have been possible to get something for that because gasoline can be put in vehicles.

I haven't read a lot about this event so maybe I'm missing something obvious, hopefully someone will set me straight here.
