Of course, letting the auto industry declare bankruptcy does not fire all those workers or lose all of that production. Something American may emerge, ala Saturn, or, Japanese. I'm sure Toyota and Honda and Nissan would not mind gobbling up all those sales with more cars produced in America.

So, the bankruptcy would be a blow to the economy, but not a total disappearing act.
