OK, so you think Volcker was a good Fed chairman, in which case you must think it was unprecedentedly spectacular leadership that Carter gave Volcker the job and more importantly gave him free reign to clamp down on inflation. Has any other president in history allowed a Fed chairman to crush his reelection chances like that for the good of the nation?
