the US sends 800 billion offshore every year to buy foreign oil. If we built fuel efficient or electric vehicles, that money could be kept here. GM blocks all progress in that direction. ALL of it.

Yes some workers will lose their jobs but 800 billion is a lot of money to send offshore every year - its 1/20 of our economy just to keep one industry afloat.
