I think AMAT is just consolidating here in the low 40's. There was probably margin selling pressure that was depressing the stock for the last few days. Through late last week there was trading from $49-$52 so those unfortunate traders were probably forced to close their positions or fork over more cash into their accounts.

I still expect AMAT to take part in the "split phenomenon" where stocks rise in an attempt to retrace to its old price. In AMAT's case, it seems as if it will have to attempt to retrace to its pre-split price instead of new ground over $50. For AMAT, it may take a few weeks or so with the lower than expected book to bill and downgrades on Friday & Monday.
