If you looked at the budget of most shipping companies, and who they do hire and why, you would realize that such considerations (usually and in the past) go out the financial window. They quit hiring North Americans 30 years ago to man the ships as they were too expensive. On the other hand, the prospect of losing your ship completely has to weigh on the financial decision. What it will do is raise rates for Gulf shipping. Probably heli crews of guards on the ships will have to be arranged for duration of the journey until they are clear to Indian Ocean or thereabouts. Also guard units will have to be fully equipped to be mobile about the boat in jig time and have sufficient firepower to overcome motherships as well as fast boats. These considerations tactically are not small, and require high training for both responsiveness and firepower. The pirates have RPG's and fairly good Assault rifles. You want to have a lot of snoose to overcome that sort of stuff even given the pirates vulnerable platforms, and be highly accurate. Aiming systems and firepower have to be considerable.
