Brumar, > No one has a right to expect to work at the local factory and know that it will be there all their lives and all their kids lives and their grandkids lives ..... Society can't afford to make commitments like that - we literally can't afford it.

I know that my job is always a year or two away from being cut. There is also an annual ranking and review process (R&R) that ensures I either keep up the productivity or go work somewhere else.

And even when all is said and done, and you continually score high on the R&R, layoffs will happen due to business conditions. Half of my small site recently got "redeployed," i.e. laid off. We're literally "next." Not a damn thing we can do about it, except continually prove our worth to the company.

This would NEVER happen in a SilentZ world. Just unionize and force the company to keep our jobs around. Why even work hard and take responsibility for our own employability? Cause it's a "white collar" job?
