no he isn't, Waxman vehemntly supports the new smartgrid and all the new alt technologies to power it. Just like Germany.

Whats going on with these Detroit automakers almost exactly mirrors the Bush economy. Bush and Detroit rammed those huge 6000 lb SUVs down everyones throat in the early part of this decade. This tax cut cost a lot at a time when we were creating record deficits and made the US economy even more sensitive to foreign oil prices as it was before. At the same time detroit sued California multiple times for initiating clean air standards and last year lobbied the EPA, which is supposed to be a non political office, to reject clean air standards that half the country wanted. All this crap was done with Dingell's help.

So now that costly short term approach to ripping off the country to support this ONE INDUSTRY has backfired, because now Detroit has no fuel efficient cars to offer, and Californians and environmentalists are now running the country and will enact whatever CAFE standards they want, and now Detroit is back at the trough begging for money from Pelosi and Boxer, people they pissed off royally just last year.
