I think the bottom line is that if the currency is willing to be sacrificed, that deflation is totally avoidable. I suspect this (mortgage mechanism) and many others will be deployed until the desired "end" is reached. They should be careful what they wish for because this can certainly end badly going the other way (hyperinflation). I predict that it almost cetainly will (and deflation is typically less politically destabilizing of the two).
