Then he shouldn't be against vouchers to allow other parents to send their kids to quality schools in order to get a good education.

I also think many underestimate the impact the first black President would have with inner city education, if their children attended and demanded accountability from the D.C. public school system. Whatever shool they chose could have been a benchmark and emulated in and around the city.

Public education is D.C. is appalling; those schools should be closed down if the President and others have such a low opinion of the education they provide. Every public school in America should be good enough for the President, Congress and any wealthy family. Accepting defeat and codifying by example year after year a class system for education, moves us closer and closer toward an aristocratic society similar to the one we cast out hundreds of years ago

I'll give you an example of what I think would have been a win-win for everyone.

Obama signs his children up with one of the local public schools, maybe the kids don't go to every class, or go for the entire school day, and then make up whatever shortfall they believe there children might get by paying for excellent tutoring.

The point is; Democrats like Obama have been big defenders of public education for years. Yet, those same defenders don't send their own children to public schools and do everything to prevent the adoption of vouchers and other programs for poor and middle class families.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just plain wrong? Wrong in multiple ways and from multiple angles. Maybe I just can't express it properly in writing, but we cannot accept as a nation this kind of dumbing down of middle and lower class in our country. Someone with the spotlight, motivation and enthusiasm needs to take the lead and change the status quo. Barack and Michelle could have been that spark. Instead, they have given up, just like every member of Congress, the Senate and hundreds of thousands of wealthy parents.

Will Bill and Milinda Gates be the only high profile example of very wealthy parents sending their kids to a public school? He and his wife led by example and have donated their time, wealth and energy to improve public schools around Seattle.

Why not the First Family?
