I've worked with both SUN and IBM AIX machines. I will try and find the figures for the 40% of the market share for Sun. Sun offers business solutions and service just like IBM. I personally prefer SUNOS over IBM's AIX.
I can tell you as a consultant, that most development shops use SUN
machines for development. I rarely get calls about work using IBM or
HP machines. SUN's OS is much easier to work with and configure than AIX. The growth for Sun will be it's continued dominance of the UNIX workstation market and the growth of JAVA. Also Sun will be a player in the internet business.
