Hi TJ -
Good luck with the school. I hope they allow some fun. For some odd reason, (maybe because my parents were nervous and I sensed that) I can even remember a few details about my first kindergarten interview - shiny polished wood floor in the sunlight and a green rockcing chair. I guess I was polite enough, I was accepted. Martial arts and robotics ? What are they creating, Power Rangers ? ;-)
You really should get Gladwell's Outliers book, it does talk about child rearing differences.
Mineralizing - Something tells me you should also consider silver, not for everything, but may 1/4 of this tranche. Silver really straddles the line between industrial and monetery metal. A large part of silver production comes as a copper, lead and zinc byproducts, so if demand for base metals drops, and productions slows, there is less silver supply. Also, siler gets used up in silver solders, electronics, and other industrial uses - gold gets hoarded, and too much platinum is recoverable from auto catalysts.
If you chart both GLD and SLV over the past 3 years, it looks like Silver may hae overshot on the downside.
