Hi nora - I haven't spent much time looking at sector ETF's but this looks like a reasonable way to get exposure to a basket of gold mining stocks:

The Index consists of securities of global gold sector issuers selected by S&P using its industrial classifications and guidelines for evaluating issuer capitalization, liquidity and fundamentals, with the weight of any one company capped at 25% of the market capitalization of the Index.

It will provide you exposure to the gold stocks while providing some protection against individual company risk. Would this be your only investment in the precious metals? You may want to consider having some bullion in your possession and then augmenting that with gold stocks, if that is an option.

edit - I had intended to respond to your post on Gold & Gold Stocks Analysis thread in regard to Peter Schiff but got distracted with other things this weekend. I think Schiff has a pretty good handle on things. Certainly he has not gotten every call right, but I don't know too many who have. He has gotten the big calls right and is now getting some respect for having called the collapse of the housing bubble back in 2006 for which he was ridiculed on CNBC. There are plenty of sources for research, opinion and analysis on the economy and precious metals. Some of the ones that I use routinely include:
