Sorry to butt in here, BUT, I have been looking around to buy a new PC within the next week or so. I am having trouble finding one that doesn't come with Win95 on it. When I get it home it is going to have Linux and Windows NT on it (a copy I already own). I do not really want Microsoft to take credit for another person out there running Win95 when that isn't the truth. This is why I think their claims of numbers of PCs out there running 95, windows, etc. probably are exagerated. They will mark me down as another sucker who is running 95 and probably get some licensing fee for it (I am not sure how that works). My number for NT has already been counted 3-4 times over, it doesn't need to be counted again.

Also I think you are right about the standard. MS is becoming the standard because of the herd mentality. I know businesses are switching OSs from OS/2 and Unix to MS because the herd is forcing more applications to be written on MS platforms and it is easier just to stop fighting the herd and jump in, which makes the problem worse for the others left out there. This doesn't mean that they have a better platform by any means, just that it is becoming the standard is all.
