Well finally... It was almost a week late but it's PD clear that the MOBILIZATION has taken begun.

As soon as it sinks in around the country that intellect, integrity and competence are pretty good deals... no matter what colors they are, and as long as their "changes" are muted and evolutionary... I expect the hustlers to be working over time at Ye Old Casino, a/k/a Wall Street, as all the MoMo's, great and small, rush in to place their latest bets.

There are only two things that will pose a potential limit this new "redistribution" of the shrinking American wealth: (1) Inflation, and (2) Irresponsibility.

Of the two, I think Inflation will be the only one with which we can adequately cope. And if Obama only sticks the pursuit of his campaign promises the rampant lack of responsibility among our leaders will remain little more than an interesting debate for the Sunday morning talk shows.

Assuming Obama is able to serve out two terms in office (which will require yet another minor miracle), inflation will be a far easier to deal with than the current mess if for no other reason than everybody and his dog will know it's coming and the usual denials will be laughable. The greater threat will come later. After the threat of inflation subsides, the moral damage incurred during the age of "Greed is Good - Government is Bad" (which was officially placed in "recess" on November 4, 2008) will have to be accounted for.

The market will no doubt make at least one more run at its lows, but if Obama succeeds in managing a recovery in the financial system they will not be violated during his Presidency... Not due to inflation... nor anything else which can be addressed by economic, monetary or fiscal policy. But this very success will all but guarantee that he will fail to resuscitate the defunct yet critical concept of responsibility (it died on September 8, 1974) in this country.

Unfortunately he/we are going to be the victim of the dichotomy which lies at the heart of our national psyche. To put it simply, in the US of A, "Success Breeds Contempt... Not Responsibility." You can look it up. It's right there in the founding documents. Or... you can just check the news rags everyday. One of the few things they're good for is recording our numerous ironies:
google.com

I know. It doesn't feel like it right now. But believe me... we have had more "success" than you can shake a trillion sticks at. If you top that record off with an escape from this round of financial fraud without at least a decade of painful, homeless depression or fifty dollar loaves of bread...

Well believe me... you do NOT want to know what this country will cough up "Post-Obama" if you/he fail to institutionalize a method of "breeding" a level of responsibility to match all the record breaking success.
