There was one kid was crying tears saying he wanted to go home. That didn't happen. Another advantage was that I got the best job in basic training. I was the platoon secretary and depending on the time frame and where you were trained the job was also known as platoon scribe, but my job was to copy the training manual onto 3x5 index cards for the daily activities that the drill instructors would carry in their cover (hat) to refer to the day's schedule. I was sworn to secrecy. I always knew what was going to happen in advance, but none of the other recruits did.
