Maurice ..

I've always felt that the degree of axial tilt or
obliquity was the driver in climate change, after all
without it we wouldn't have 'seasons' ... The simple fact
that at 42' N latitude ( where I reside ) we vary from
less than 10 hours of solar input in winter to greater
than 14 hours per day during summer is enough to trigger
our annual migration from winter wasteland to sub-tropical
paradise ..

Per Wiki .. the obliquity of the earth is currently
declining ( ie ) we're headed towards 22' from +23';
thus a more upright rotation ( less extremes from summer
to winter in terms of hours of sunlight ) and just coming
out of the current cycle solar minimum argues ( to me )
that we'll experience more warming going forward .....

I realize that there are other inputs and various feedback
mechanisms with regards to short cycle heating and cooling
effects, but the degree of obliquity seems a very powerful
climatic driver ....
