I am a huge Whole Foods fan but they are certainly not a monopoly and that is why the Feds trying to break up their purchase of OATS is ludicrous. The Feds claim they would control too much of the organic food sector. WFMI counters with the fact that huge chains like Safeway, Kroger and yes, WalMart are now all carrying and promoting organics. (Yes, I know, their organics are not as 'organic' as WFMI organics).
At any rate, with the advent of the new administration perhaps the government will go away, much as they did when Bush came into the power and the Feds pulled back from their Microsoft suit. There will be plenty of opportunities to buy Whole Foods, and I probably will, when that happens. In the meantime, be careful. If they force WFMI to spin off OATS, it will take WFMI years to recover. Read their financials.
