AND *breaking the back* of a decade and a half long INFLATIONARY CYCLE (thus: BRINGING DOWN the 'misery index') and creating the necessary economic conditions without which the Reagan era economic expansion would not have been possible.

(Or perhaps you would prefer continual dollar devaluation, a la modern Zimbabwe or the pre-war Weimar Republic? After all, INFLATION is always and anon the POLITICIAN'S FAVORITE TAX --- because it is stealthy, and it picks most everyone's pocket, and the pols never have to go on the record and vote 'for' this variety of tax'.... That's why politicians all throughout history have been so FOND of inflation... from the declining years of the collapsing Roman Empire, to the decaying years of the Spanish Empire, etc., etc., sadly etc.)
