The Republicans in Washington has actively ENCOURAGED Detroit to build the wrong cars for the last couple of decades.

That's a convenient lie pushed forth by partisan Democrats.

How much of an incentive did Detroit really get for "building the wrong cars"? How much did it skew demand? How much did it affect the R&D of "the right cars"? Remember that the foreign car makers also met the demand for "the wrong cars" without having to sacrifice anything else.

Do you consider it a lie that a few years back when Dems proposed Detroit be put under stronger MPG requirements, they faced strong opposition from both Detroit AND the Republicans? In fact, that year only a very minor increase was put through, allowing Detroit to continue to produce en masse SUVs and other gas guzzling vehicles. Is that all a lie?
