I know. I'm one of the Republicans who bailed out, although I did it in 2004 after 26 years of voting straight ticket Republican. What amazes me, though, is the incredible party loyalty in this country that places party above country. I see it in spades on this thread and it is disheartening. It points to a lack of education and critical thinking. In my book, we should all be voting for the best, smartest, most competent candidates with the policies we believe are right for the times and problems we face. To vote for and defend someone simply because they are part of the party you typically vote for, despite all the evidence that their ideas are bankrupt and their candidates are not the best ones, is simply a failure of responsibility and loyalty to our country. The defense of Palin by Republicans is a classic case of this nonsense.
