EC The easiest conversion which I use is the Kilogram to troy ounces. There are 32.1507 troy ounces in 1 Kg and 1000 kg in a tonne (metric tonne).

That's rounded off a bit.. It is actually 32.15074636 (and a few more digits)

On that basis 4000 tonnes equals 128,602,800 ounces (4000*1000*32.1507) close enough to your figure for government work....

If you use more decimal places and multiply by 32.15074636 then the number becomes 128,602,885 ounces so the rounding error (in whole ounces) in using 32.1507 amounts to 85 ounces in 4000 tonnes.

PS.. If you are doing the deal then feel free to send the buyer the round number of ounces and send any rounding error off to me. (I would prefer your figure) I will be able to look after that balance of just a few minor decimal places!
