I don't know what American cars are like now, rarely ride in them and haven't driven one for 25 years.

The experiences that I had in the past turned me off American cars period....

I won't go into detail about the Maverick and the Pinto,,,those are well known death traps.

I will relate my experience with the Dodge Omni that I was forced to borrow for an errand. Crazy as it seems, Dodge actually designed a car that had such bad balance that the steering wheel wouldn't center itself after taking a corner. You physically had to move the wheel back to the center position. I had no idea the car was so messed up when I first drove it so the first corner I took came close to running into a parked car. During the same errand the starter got stuck engaged and burned out before I had a clue anything was wrong.

Some asian cars come up short on quality too. I had a Mazda MPV minivan that sucked gas, had design problems with the oil ports being too small and the damn door latch on the drivers side broke off (that was something that never should happen), caused by inferior metal....last Mazda I'll ever buy too.

The first 2 cars I had were Subarus and both lasted well with very little maintenance.....
