First, distortion and the left aren't synonymous. I've found the right, who unabashedly support the oil companies, are far more effective at distortion. So much so, that they got us into a war of choice over WMD that has yet to be found. So don't talk to me about distortion.
Second, you mistake me for the left. I've been to the right of center all my life. Prior to 2003, I might have talked exactly like many of the posters on this thread. However, when the facts change, I change my views. And the facts have changed.
The global scientific consensus is that CO2 increases due to human activity and global warming are occurring. But even if you don't believe that, we should all agree that it is imperative to get off of oil, so that our entire foreign policy isn't shackled to whatever oil dictates our policy to be and so our economy isn't so dependent on one commodity or energy source and so that our national security isn't dependent on countries who are dead set on our destruction, namely Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Iran.
Even if you don't give two shits about global warming, I DEFY YOU to tell me that we're better off continuing our dependence on oil, despite the OVERWHELMING evidence that it is killing this country and contributing to the unfettered growth of power of our worst enemies. |
