I don't know your life well but a collie is a pretty high maintenance dog with bundles of energy. Also a lot of hair to deal with.

A beagle is a hunting dog that is going to want to run. More of a tool then a pet IMO. They are also going to be a noisy dog with lots of baying when chasing rabbits around the yard and such.

A lab is a wonderful dog. I've had many. Again though this is a hunting dog that wants to retrieve. Until they are 5 or so they are also a real handful energy wise.

If you just want a good pet I would get a mutt of some kind IMO.

Poodle is a good choice also and comes in a variety of sizes.
