They were in shoe boxes with the tape side down. I picked one up and it was almost stuck to the bottom - looked like black tar. All the rest had the same problem. I don't think the temperature had anything to do with it but who knows. I live in So Cal and it gets hot here. I think it was the little pads at the opening that disintegrated.
