Possibly. (But raising the issue up aloft in the kleig lights of a Presidential campaign just might have sped that, IMO, necessary review of American policy up, too.)

Regardless.. the 'Bush-Mush' era of American/Pakistani relations was drawing to a close. (Giving Pakistan's military $20 Billion to re-arm against India... while 'playing' at confronting their own 'patriotic' terrorists was most likely a waste of time and good resources....)

As do I.

But (given the evidence of history, from Alexander the Great onward to the failed British Colonial, and Soviet attempts to occupy Afghanistan)... I'd say that SO LONG as the resistance has safe havens inside Pakistan for resupply and regrouping and training and fund-raising, it's highly unlikely that any 'Afghanistan-only' military policy can ever defeat the opposition.

So... other options should probably be looked at.

Perhaps a 'Greater Pastunistan' is ultimately the most efficacious option? (Or... perhaps strangling off the W'habbist financing is the key ingredient to a solution the world can live with?)
